HB 7138, AN ACT CONCERNING MANUFACTURER PERMITS FOR BREWPUBS, PASSED HOUSE FLOOR TODAY IN OVERWHELMING VOTE
Cambridge House Owner and President Available for Interview
HARTFORD, Conn., April 25, 2007: HB 7138, "An Act Concerning Manufacturer Permits for Brew Pubs", passed the House floor today in a vote of 146 to 3.
The proposed measure would allow Connecticut brewpub owners to bottle and sell their beers. It would also adhere to Connecticut's three-tiered system-a process that involves the state's producers, wholesalers and retailers-for bottling and distribution.
The bill, which was passed by the General Law Committee in March by a unanimous vote of 19-0, aims to negate a 70-year-old provision in the state's law that currently prohibits licensed brewpub owners from running a beer bottling or kegging operation.
Legislative supporters include Representative Chris Stone (D-9th District) House Chair of General Law Committee; Senator Thomas Colapietro (D-31st District) and Representative Richard Ferrari (R-62nd District). Steve Boucino, founder and president of the Cambridge House brewpub in Granby, initiated the bill.
